Teacher Training in Orton-Gillingham

The Stratford Friends School Multisensory Teacher Training Center provides instruction to educators and other professionals in the Orton-Gillingham Approach to Language Instruction. A phonics-based approach, Orton-Gillingham provides training in the five major components of effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, in-depth phonics instruction, reading comprehension strategies, vocabulary development, and reading fluency. Also included is spelling instruction. Research has shown that spelling instruction undergirds and supports reading and should be an integral part of a strong reading program rather than being taught as a separate subject.

Strategies for multisensory instruction are emphasized. These techniques are widely recognized to enhance all academic instruction. For students with learning differences, the addition of multisensory techniques can mean the difference between success and failure. Participants learn how to apply these strategies in their own classrooms and in one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions.

Stratford Friends School Multisensory Teacher Training Center provides on-site training to educators and other professionals holding a Bachelor’s Degree.
